Fife Pilgrim Way
25 August 2026
Lochore Meadows to Markinch
Those wishing to 'walk the way' on Tuesday the 25th should meet in the Lochore Meadows car park (free) at 8.45 on Tuesday Lochore Meadows Country Park | Fife Council
Pilgrims will set off at 9.00 towards Crosshill along Loch Ore shore and passing the remains of Lochore Castle , a former stronghold, then follow an easterly direction on tracks towards Harelaw Cairn to Hare Law and on to Woodend. This stretch travels through pasture of wildflowers and scrub with views over a rolling landscape back to Benarty Hill.
The route then follows the pavement by the road to Kinglassie, first recorded as Kinglassie, and features Finglassin's well, houses a church (1777), was home to a pit, 1908 to 1967, and an open cast mine.
Picking the way northwards towards the village of Leslie, the River Leven provides direction into Glenrothes and though the town to Markinch.
Once the 'way for the day' is complete it is by bus that we are able to return to Crosshill and return to Lochore Meadows. That being the case remember to bring a bus pass if it applies and/or your debit card. Generally, light snacks/water can be taken with you and a cafe along the route supplies the rest.
If intending to walk on the day it may be best to contact me as we can perhaps make travel arrangements. Look forward to seeing you.I have been delighted to have welcomed a walking companion on each of the two legs that have been completed. A great joy; thank you Adam and Paul.
Isaiah 40:31, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
The Reading, the Prayer and the quote have been offered by, Reverend, Dr. Valerie Allen
Reading Psalm 96:11-13 (Common English Bible)
Let heaven celebrate!
Let the earth rejoice!
Let the sea and everything in it roar!Let the countryside and everything in it celebrate!
Then all the trees of the forest too will shout out joyfully before the Lord because he is coming!
Poem Prayer by Kenneth Steven
If you do not believe in God
Go on a blue spring day across these fields:
Listen to the orchids, race the sea, scent the wind.
Come back and tell me it was all an accident
A collision of blind chanceIn the empty hugeness of space.
Quote
“Every time I’m in the woods, I feel like I’m in church.”
