Readings, Meditation and Prayer
Offered by Reverend Dr. Valerie Allan
Reading
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Walking Meditation
Notice what is going on in nature as you walk. Are there birds singing? Are there particular smells? What catches your eye and moves your heart?
Prayer
Use the words of this familiar song as your closing prayer, but change the pronoun from ‘you’ to ‘I’.
I shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace,And the mountains and the hill, shall break forth before me.There'll be shouts of joy and the trees of the fields, shall clap, shall clap their hands. And the trees of the fields shall clap their hands x 4 And I'll go out with joy.
Pilgrimage Meditation
PoemPraying by Mary Oliver
It doesn't have to bethe blue iris, it could beweeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; justpay attention, then patcha few words together and don't try to make them elaborate, this isn't a contest but the doorwayinto thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak.
Quote
Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden.Corrie Ten Boom
Walking Meditation
As you walk, talk to God about what is concerning you most right now? Then take some time to walk in silence aware of God sharing that burden with you.
Prayer
Give thanks to God for this time you have shared together. Pray that God’s peace, which is beyond all your human understanding, will keep your heartand mind safe in Christ Jesus.
