We were very pleased to receive all your answers to the Port Kirk Survey. It gave us great encouragement to read your responses and to see how we can improve and help with community engagement. Thank you for taking the time to help us with that.
Our church membership is elderly and for the last 6 years we have not had a minister. During this time, surprisingly, we have become stronger and more independent, but it takes a great deal of organisation and work to keep everything going. We will need to have help to take this into the future.
Over 91% of those who responded wished the kirk to remain open, with over 50% wanting it to be open for Sunday services and over 76% for seasonal services.
Over 78% suggested that it should be used for lectures, concerts, school and other community events.
There were several offers of help in varying degrees. We will try to follow up on some of the offers of help and other suggestions as we enter 2023.
We are well aware that a major problem is the lack of disabled access, but this is a struggle that involves Stirling Council. All access is owned by the council and not the church. We are working with the council on this at the moment.
We also do not want to encroach on the interests of the Port Hall so we need to give careful thought to some of the ideas that were forthcoming and how we can work with the Hall to make sure we maximise the benefit to both organisations.
As we start to look at a way to take action on some of the suggestions perhaps we could encourage you to look at our website https://www.portkirk.com/ Feel free to contact us if there is anything you would like to know or that we can help with.
